What are crypto liquidations?

When a trader opens a leveraged position on a perpetual futures market, the exchange requires margin as collateral. If the market moves against the position far enough that the margin can no longer cover the loss, the exchange forcibly closes it at market price. That forced closure is a liquidation. Because liquidations are executed as market orders, they add real buy or sell pressure: cascading long liquidations push price down faster, and cascading short liquidations fuel sharp squeezes upward.

How to read the live feed

Every row in the table is a single liquidation order streamed live from the exchange, showing the exchange, symbol, side (long or short), liquidation price, USD value and timestamp. Above the table, the stats cards aggregate the flow over your selected time window (1H, 4H, 12H or 24H): total liquidation value and count with the long versus short split, the most liquidated symbol, and the largest single liquidation.

Use the filters to focus the feed: pick a single exchange, search for a symbol like BTC or ETH, or hide small orders by setting a minimum value of $1K, $10K or $100K. Filtering to $100K+ is a quick way to isolate the positions large enough to actually move the market.

Why liquidations matter for traders

Liquidation flow is one of the most direct reads on leverage and positioning in crypto. A burst of long liquidations tells you over-leveraged longs are being flushed, which often marks capitulation near local bottoms. Heavy short liquidations signal a squeeze in progress. Comparing the long/short split across exchanges also reveals where leverage is concentrated. Combined with the liquidation levels and liquidity heatmap tools on DCT Alpha Analytics, the live feed helps you time entries around forced flows instead of getting caught in them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a crypto liquidation?

A liquidation happens when a leveraged trading position is forcibly closed by the exchange because the trader’s margin can no longer cover the losses. The exchange closes the position at market price, which shows up as a liquidation order in the feed. Large waves of liquidations often accelerate price moves in the same direction.

Which exchanges does the live liquidation feed cover?

The feed streams liquidations in real time from Binance, Bybit, OKX, Bitget, Gate.io, HTX and Bitfinex, plus the on-chain perpetual DEXs Hyperliquid and Aster. You can filter by a single exchange, search for a specific symbol, and set a minimum order value of $1K, $10K or $100K.

What is the difference between long and short liquidations?

Long liquidations are leveraged long positions forced closed as price falls, adding sell pressure. Short liquidations are leveraged shorts forced closed as price rises, adding buy pressure. The feed splits totals into long and short so you can see which side of the market is being flushed out.

Is the live liquidation feed free to use?

Yes, the live liquidation feed is part of DCT Alpha Analytics. A free account gives you access to the basic tools, while Premium unlocks the full suite of 140+ tools including liquidation levels, liquidity heatmaps and AI-powered analytics.
